Ty Parrish


Ty is a Partner and Practice Leader of Cerity Partners’ Retirement Plan Services Group where he specializes in helping public, private and nonprofit organizations design “blue ribbon” retirement plans. His areas of expertise include plan design, fiduciary governance, vendor management and Fiduciary Based Investment Consulting™.

As a twenty-four year veteran of the retirement plan industry, Ty was instrumental in the design of Cerity Partners proprietary Plan Health Smartcard™ scoring system that helps plan sponsors  quickly quantify the overall health of their retirement plans relative to peers. In addition, he created the Blue Ribbon Retirement Plan Award™ that recognizes plan sponsors who have embraced industry best practices and given their employees a clear path to achieving retirement readiness.

Prior to joining Cerity Partners, Ty was a Managing Partner and Senior ERISA Consultant with Blue Prairie Group, where he led the Institutional Retirement Practice Group and worked with their largest retirement plan clients. Earlier in his career, he honed his investment knowledge as a Key Account Executive with RidgeWorth Investments and built the firm’s defined contribution investment-only business. Ty was also the Institutional Business Development Officer at SunTrust Bank, focusing solely on helping Fortune 1000 companies with their retirement plans. He began his career at Great-West Life as an employee benefits specialist.

Ty earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Florida – Warrington College of Business with a concentration in finance. He holds the Certified Investment Management Analyst® (CIMA®) certification and the Certified 401(k) Professional – C(k)P™ designation from UCLA Anderson Executive Education.

He is a member of the Retirement Advisor Council and a frequent speaker at industry conferences. Ty has been recognized as one of the top retirement plan advisors in the country by 401(k) Specialist Magazine.

Matt Gnabasik


Matt is a Partner in the Chicago office. He is a well-known speaker, author and innovator in the retirement plan industry with more than 28 years of experience. Matt specializes in simplifying complex retirement issues for his plan sponsor clients by utilizing his deep experience to drive better outcomes for participants and reduced liability for plan sponsors. His areas of expertise include strategic plan design, fiduciary best practices, employee financial wellness, investment menu design, fee analysis and negotiation and multinational savings plans.

Prior to joining Cerity Partners, he founded Blue Prairie Group, a leading ERISA-focused RIA firm serving hundreds of corporate, not-for-profit and government clients throughout the country. He is the author of two books on retirement plans: 401(k) Best Practices: A Guidebook for Plan Sponsors (2020) and Smart Choices: Selecting and Administering a Safe 401(k) Plan (2002.)

Matt holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Minnesota, Carlson School of Management.
