In Name, Image, and Likeness for International Student Athletes, Dan Johnson, Director of Financial Planning Training, shares how financial planners who serve elite athletes at the start of their careers must understand how immigration status affects their compensation.

Dan is a Principal based in the Chicago office, Dan is the Director of Financial Planning Training at Cerity Partners. He helps lead “Cerity Partners University,” an internal educational program, and ensures the firm’s regional partner offices adhere to set standards and requirements.

Dan began his career as a planning resident, later expanding his role to a lead financial advisor in the Twin Cities region. He has provided financial counsel to a broad clientele, including individuals, families, and executives nationwide.

Prior to joining Cerity partners, Dan was an Assistant Professor at The College for Financial Planning (CFFP). In this role, he created the “Sports & Entertainer – Accredited Wealth Management Advisor” graduate program. Concurrently, he was a part-time instructor at Kaplan Professional, developing diverse educational resources for financial service professionals.

Dan graduated from the University of Minnesota-Duluth, earned his CFP® certificate and a Master’s in Financial Planning from CFFP, and holds an IRS Enrolled Agent tax license. He’s pursuing an MBA from Warwick University and Level 1 of the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) program.
