Mission-Aligned Investing Capabilities

Clients shouldn’t have to compromise investment conviction or due diligence (whether investment, operational, or legal) when incorporating mission-aligned investing (MAI) into investment decision-making and portfolio management.

We take a tailored approach to working with clients on MAI mandates. We work closely and collaboratively with a client’s key decision-makers to develop their MAI framework and define precisely what they are trying to accomplish with their investments and how (or if) their goals are achievable, given the current investment climate and available investment options. From our experience, each client’s approach will be different, reflecting the client’s priorities based on mission, investment structure, and available resources.

Our Process

Our process typically involves a combination of the following:

Informing

We collaborate with clients and convene educational workshops, whether to demystify MAI strategies, perform “Know What You Own” portfolio analyses, or conduct peer reviews.

Setting Objectives

We help clients establish MAI objectives based on values, investment objectives, and internal and external drivers.

Establishing Policy and Procedures

MAI objectives should be reflected throughout the investment process, including in investment policies and Investment Management Agreements. Size and structure will inform the appropriate implementation of objectives.

Constructing the Portfolio

The expected outcome is for the portfolio to reflect the agreed-upon investment objectives, minimizing dissonance between the client’s mission and their portfolio.

Our Experience

Our senior investment professionals have significant experience creating customized portfolios to meet mission-related objectives. This includes incorporating Environmental, Social, and Governance (“ESG”) factors into manager selection processes, investing in ESG and Impact mandates, and implementing divestment (e.g., Sudan and fossil fuels) and exclusionary screens (e.g., alcohol, tobacco, firearms, casinos/gaming, adult entertainment, etc.).
