Q & A

Q:

As someone who has spent his nearly 40-year career at the Big 4 as a tax professional, why did you decide to join Cerity Partners?

Cerity Partners is a leader in wealth management, and has embraced tax advisory as a core offering since inception. I was inspired by the vision of the firm and excited to have the opportunity to lead the firm’s efforts in building a world class tax advisory practice capable of serving high net worth individuals, business owners, and companies.

What inspired you to pursue your career in professional services?

Having baseball play a large role in my life, I’ve always loved being part of a team with a common goal. Working in professional services gave me that ability, and Cerity Partners’ collaborative and entrepreneurial environment brings the best out of me.

What differentiates Cerity Partners from other firms in our space?

Clients are looking for a “one-stop shop” for all things financial in their personal lives, and are going to investment advisors or tax advisors for advice. Cerity Partners is a leader in the intersection of both, which benefits both clients and colleagues.

What are some unique value propositions that our firm offers to potential accounting firms?

The tax advisor has changed from largely tax compliance to being a trusted advisor for all things financial in clients’ personal lives. This includes many services outside of the standard tax function such as financial planning, investment decisions, family office services, and many others that are offered by Cerity Partners’ colleagues across the nation.

What is most critical when new accounting practices joining Cerity Partners?

We realize that new accounting practices have spent years and resources building best-in-class practices, and do not want to fundamentally change what has made them so successful. We embrace their cultures and values, and look to leverage them across Cerity Partners while enhancing them with what has made Cerity Partners a leading professional services firm.
