Q & A

Q:

What do you do in your personal life that helps you help your clients?

I love to be outside: hiking, camping, riding my bicycle, and kayaking. My favorite outdoor activity is sea kayaking, which involves paddling in large open bodies of water, like the Apostle Islands of Lake Superior. A key aspect of all of these activities, especially sea kayaking, is continual risk assessment and management. Kayakers need to be thinking about what could go wrong and how to mitigate the risk of those things happening. As a Salesforce administrator, I’ve adopted this mentality to make technical changes in the platform.

Was there a specific incident in your life that made it clear you were made for this career?

As an undergraduate, I worked in cataloging at our campus library and enjoyed the technical aspects of organizing books and information. After finishing my education, I was working at a startup in Customer Success and they needed someone to administer the Salesforce instance, so I volunteered. I realized that being a Salesforce Administrator was very similar to the work I loved in the library and pivoted my career.

What should your clients know the most about you?

I’m an educator by training, so I always hope that you learn something new about Salesforce when we meet. I’m also a huge animal lover – if your pet shows up during our call, of course I want to see them and say hi!

What differentiates Cerity Partners from other firms in our space?

At a lot of other companies, the Salesforce team is part of sales, operations, or marketing. Our Salesforce team is part of the larger technology team, which helps us integrate the Salesforce platform with the rest of the technology used by the firm. It may not be a noticeable difference outside our team, but it makes a huge difference to us!

How would you describe your best day doing what you do?

A good day is a nice balance of working with our end users, collaboratively solving technical problems with the Salesforce team, and time to put my head down and focus on solo work. I work remotely and one of the highlights of my day is taking my dog Mo out around mid-afternoon for a walk and a biscuit from my building’s front office. He’s good about reminding me to take a break!
