Biography

Winky is a Principal based in the North Bay office. He is a member of the firm’s Client and Corporate Services department.

Prior to joining Cerity Partners, Winky was the Controller for Brouwer & Janachowski where he was responsible for the financial operations of the company, preparing financial statements, creating financial reports and dashboards, and overseeing the annual financial audit. He’s an expert at distilling complex financial, administrative, and operational processes into simple and elegant reporting that helps management operate the company efficiently.

Prior to joining Brouwer & Janachowski, Winky was the Controller for FCE Benefits, Accounting Manager for Creative Food Concepts, Senior Consultant for Robert Half International, Senior Financial Analyst/Accounting Manager for Monogram BioSciences, and held various financial analyst and accounting manager positions at Trapeze Networks, InSite Vision, Theravance, Waste Management, and Norcal Waste Systems.

Education

  • B.S. in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting and Finance from San Francisco State University

Q:

Was there a specific incident in your life that made it clear you were made for this career?

I worked on a project (from my previous career in Waste Management) that resulted in saving the company over $1.5 million of accrued expenses. That opened my eyes and allowed me to see the value of what I do as an accounting/finance professional. It is not just “a number” — it has a significant impact on the firm’s bottom line.

What differentiates Cerity Partners from other firms in our space?

We always put our clients’ interests first. That’s why we are a fees-based only advisory firm and stay independent by not accepting any commission from a third party.

Why is your specialty important, especially today?

I support our CFPs in various aspects (back-end office/system support, billing, etc.) so they can focus on serving our clients.
