Q & A

Q:

What inspired you to pursue your career in financial management?

I’ve had an interest in the markets and saving from a young age – and it all starts with my parents. My dad introduced me to investing when I was just a sophomore in high school, while my mom worked as a CPA and tax accountant. Looking back now as a financial planner and CPA, it’s clear to see that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.

Was there a specific incident in your life that made it clear you were made for this career?

My interest in the markets and investing dates back to high school. My dad sat me down one afternoon to give me an overview on investing and the benefits of diversification; I even remember looking through an issue of Forbes to review their mutual fund grades. Shortly after, I purchased my first mutual fund in 2001 with my savings as a bagger from the local grocery store.

Why is your work important, especially today?

It is imperative that advisors today understand both the tax and investment implications when making decisions on behalf of clients. As a CPA and CFP, I can take a holistic and comprehensive approach to developing a client’s financial plan.

What should your clients know the most about you?

As a CFP, I am held to the highest standard and required to act in my client’s best interest. There are plenty of other “advisors” which are not held to the same fiduciary standard; this often leads to higher fees, commissions, and a lack of suitable investments for the client.

What kind of clients work best for you?

I work best with clients that are looking to establish a financial planning relationship built on trust and communication.

What differentiates Cerity Partners from other firms in our space?

There’s a collaborative and growth mindset across the Cerity Partners team. With over 400+ colleagues, you’re never on an island and there’s a wealth of knowledge at all levels of the firm.

What do you do in your personal life that helps you help your clients?

I’m always looking to learn and further my development. I frequently read the Wall Street Journal and listen to financial podcasts to gain new perspectives and insight. I’ve also become hooked on Pickleball! I’ve learned that the game requires a great deal of patience; this serves as a great reminder for investing and achieving long-term financial goals.

How would you describe your best day doing what you do?

It all comes down to developing strong relationships with my clients. Meeting with my clients, whether in-person or virtually, allows me to build that trust while providing a high level of service.

What does the world need now more than anything?

We all need meaningful relationships in our lives. The pandemic has tested everyone – having a team of people in your corner to support you is instrumental to moving forward.
