Biography

Kent is a Partner in the Boston office and a member of the firm’s Investment Committee. Kent has been professionally investing for over three decades in public and private markets, across the globe, and among various asset classes. Over his career, he has interviewed countless public company executives and portfolio managers, appeared on Bloomberg TV, quoted in financial publications, and served as a panelist for buy-side and wealth management conferences.

Prior to joining Cerity Partners, Kent was Partner and Chief Investment Officer at Daintree Advisors. Kent helped co-found Daintree at its inception in early 2010 and led Daintree’s Investment Committee.

Previously, Kent was a Senior Vice President and Portfolio Manager at The Boston Company and Director of Research for Mellon Growth Advisors LLC. Prior to that, Kent worked as a Senior Equity Analyst at State Street Global Advisors. Kent began his post-business school investment management career at Alex. Brown where he was an Associate Analyst covering the insurance industry.

Kent and his wife Lisa have three adult children. To relax, Kent loves to be on or near water – boating, or fishing, when not playing golf or pickleball.

Q:

Who inspired you to pursue your career in financial management?

My grandfather-in-law deeply inspired me with his financial management success but even more as one who cared deeply for people and their faith life. This was evident through his donations of money and time to support people and like-minded organizations.

What should your clients know the most about you?

I bring a good mix of midwestern values and people skills through growing up in Fargo, ND and undergrad in the Chicago area. That background is enhanced through business school and career experience managing money for institutions and wealthy clients on the East Coast.

What kind of clients work best for you?

Clients who, like me, understand that they do not fully know their future self. That approach helps us provide great investment and planning advice with doses of humility and flexibility.

What differentiates Cerity Partners from other firms in our space?

Colleagues think like owners – because we are – through our partnership, and therefore aligned interests, with clients.

What do you do in your personal life that helps you help your clients?

My wife, Lisa, and I volunteer our leadership skills for places that are important to us (such as Camp Brookwoods in NH) and allow us to use or talents and gifts for the greater good — especially as it involves sharing our faith. We are truly blessed to have those opportunities.

A love for the outdoors through hobbies like golf, pickleball, boating, and fishing that provides the needed respite beyond work and other demands of life.

How would you describe your best day doing what you do?

Helping clients discern or see results through the question, “What’s the money for?”

What does the world need now more than anything?

Trust and humility — look for an advisor who you can trust and also has the needed humility.
