Biography

Jonatán is a Senior Associate in the Boston office and is a member of the firm’s Wealth Management practice.  He works with individuals and families to help them understand, implement, and achieve their financial goals.

Before joining Cerity Partners, Jonatán was a Client Service & Community Engagement Associate at Daintree Advisors. He is passionate about education and economic development with a driving desire to develop strategic partnerships that empower individuals, families, and small business owners through education, financial literacy, and social services.

Prior to joining Daintree, Jonatán worked as a fundraising professional for the MIT Sloan School of Management in Cambridge. During his tenure, he worked with many domestic and international alumni donors helping facilitate their professional, philanthropic, and volunteer engagement with the Institute according to their interests and values.

Jonatán was born and raised in the Dominican Republic, moved to the U.S. in 2006 and now considers Boston home. He is actively involved at his local church where he teaches basic financial literacy courses to immigrant families. He enjoys helping low-income individuals learn how to better manage their finances, reduce unnecessary expenses through budgeting and cash flow planning, and prioritize reducing debt. He enjoys traveling, eating new foods, spending time with friends, and learning about other cultures and traditions.

Q:

Who inspired you to pursue your career in financial management?

My colleague, mentor, and friend, Samuel Afari-Aikins. He believed in me when I doubted myself. He saw some potential and took a chance and gave me the opportunity of a lifetime.

Why is your work important, especially today?

I am a culturally sensitive, bilingual professional who is accessible. This is integral to addressing the financial disparities in our society. Being able to provide comprehensive financial planning and engage individuals and families regardless of the level of assets is my passion.

What should your clients know the most about you?

I strive to be known as a man of integrity. An ally who serves as a second set of eyes and thought partner helping individuals evaluate different options and potential outcomes.

What differentiates Cerity Partners from other firms in our space?

The people. Highly competent and seasoned professionals willing to help those who need it most. Furthermore, the wholistic approach to not only manage a client’s portfolio, but to also look at tax, insurance, estate planning and so many other areas and together paint a bigger picture.

What do you do in your personal life that helps you help your clients?

I spend time outside of work sharing life with people by volunteering and understanding the needs of the community around me. I love availing myself as a resource to share my knowledge and resources with those who can’t afford a traditional financial planner.

How would you describe your best day doing what you do?

My best day is when I sit with a client and share a piece of information they did not know before, empowering them to thinking for themselves and share the knowledge with others.

What does the world need now more than anything?

Competent professionals willing to give of their their time and resources to sit down and empower the least fortunate. Passing on our knowledge and empowering others has the potential to transform someone’s family tree.
