Q:
Was there a specific incident in your life that made it clear you were made for this career?
When I was a young teen, I remember working all summer for a few thousand bucks and having to help my family with the mortgage. We didn’t always struggle and I knew how hard my parents worked to provide us with an amazing life, but it was something that I hoped I didn’t ever have to ask my children to do.
Why is your specialty important, especially today?
This year has been especially challenging for investments in general, so adding value in other aspects of planning like tax, insurance, employee benefits, and estate planning reinsures our clients that the comprehensive planning is still intact and can remain successful.
What differentiates Cerity Partners from other firms in our space?
I think it is our comprehensive approach. A lot of firms say they are comprehensive, but do they also prepare and file tax returns? When we have a deep understanding of a person’s specific taxes, and not just general tax knowledge, it gives us a huge advantage. The same goes for our understanding of company benefits and insurance.
What should your clients know the most about you?
My hope is that they truly know that I want what is best for them in all aspects of life. First and foremost I want my clients to have health and happiness.

Tax Strategies
With the passage of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 that eliminated the “marriage penalty” tax brackets, filing a joint federal tax return has mainly become a foregone conclusion for married couples. Under certain circumstances, couples may still opt to file separately. Partner Dan Park and Principal Cheryl Donaldson outline several factors that warrant careful consideration and planning when filing your taxes.
Financial Planning
A traditional pre-tax dollar funded 401(k) will grow tax-free over its lifetime, however there are factors to consider that could "supercharge" your 401(k) growth.
Employee Stock Purchase Plans
While tech stocks have had a challenging start to 2022, this environment could present an opportunity for you to take advantage of their incentive equity.
