Q & A

Q:

Was there a specific incident in your life that made it clear you were made for this career?

I always knew I wanted to do something meaningful and work with people, but I wasn’t sure in what capacity. My father was diagnosed with cancer when I was in high school and it made me realize quickly that time is truly precious – you need to take action to work towards your goals sooner than later. Hearing stories about my mother’s childhood truly shaped me as well. She was one of 11 children in her family and was the oldest female. They had limited means and she carried a lot of responsibility to look after her younger siblings. She always encouraged me to take responsibility for myself and to be financially independent. She had always taken care of the finances for our family but after my father passed away I really understood the importance of that. I wanted to help other people prepare for their future and plan for their loved ones.

Why is your work important, especially today?

It’s important now more then ever, because more responsibility is falling on us to take care of ourselves in the future. People need to fund their own retirement, can’t rely on social security to cover much of their needed living expenses – this is in addition to navigating through all of the information available on the internet, filtering out the noise generated by media outlets and ever-changing rules and regulations involving taxes and retirement assets. It’s also a very exciting time to invest in innovation and multiple planning techniques to build wealth strategically.

What should your clients know the most about you?

That I take my commitment to them seriously and hope to work with them and their family for generations. I believe in holistic planning and believe that all aspects of their financial situation (investments, tax planning, estate planning, etc.) need to come together in order to be successful.

Individuals, families, wealth creators and retirees. I’ve had a lot of experience serving widowers, divorcees and families that have members with special needs.

What differentiates Cerity Partners from other firms in our space?

Our commitment to putting clients’ best interest at the heart of what we do. We have the depth of knowledge and collective experience to best serve clients in all aspects of their financial well-being and can bring the proper resources and team to meet clients niche needs and goals.

What do you do in your personal life that helps you help your clients?

I believe reading in my free time in areas of behavioral finance and communication helps me serve my clients better. I also, of course, practice what I preach and take ownership of my own financial well being.

How would you describe your best day doing what you do?

My best days are the days where I can help a client through a financial decision or meet a new client that needs my assistance. I think it’s human nature and sometime easy to procrastinate or to put the big decisions off – being able to help people through a tough decision or life changing event is very rewarding.

What does the world need now more than anything?

The world needs opportunity to be available to every individual, fairly and equally.
