Andrejs Pilajevs, CFP®, MSFP

Andrejs Pilajevs is a Senior Principal and International Wealth Advisor at Cerity Partners, based in the Washington, DC area. He helps globally mobile families plan across borders, including US citizens living abroad, foreign citizens building wealth in the US, retirees relocating overseas, executives and entrepreneurs moving their businesses internationally, and multigenerational families with assets, trusts, and tax exposure in several countries.

Andrejs works with ultra-high-net-worth households whose financial lives cross jurisdictional lines. His work includes pre-immigration planning for foreign citizens relocating to the US, cross-border tax strategy for Americans living overseas, retirement planning for clients moving abroad, and multi-jurisdictional trust and estate structures that must hold up under more than one country’s legal system at once.

Andrejs also advises successful American families who have no immediate plans to relocate but want to diversify where their assets are held and understand the citizenship and residency options available to them and their children.

For clients whose lives span multiple currencies, he designs investment strategies and manages the currency risk that arises when a family lives in a euro, pound sterling, or Swiss franc environment while holding investments in US dollars.

Tax domicile, the way trusts and estate plans are recognized, and the tax treatment of investments can all change when a family crosses a border. Andrejs addresses these issues early and designs a plan suited to each family’s situation.

Andrejs holds the CFP® designation and a Master of Science in Personal Financial Planning from the University of Georgia. He has published on jurisdictional diversification strategy for globally mobile households in the Investments & Wealth Institute’s journal.
